Janet Louis (Girton) Collins, age 83 of Union City, In passed away peacefully Tuesday December 8th at Reid Health Hospice from complications due to Covid-19.

She was born October 22, 1937 in Randolph County In to the late Wilmer and Grace (Smiley) Girton.  On April 2, 1955 she married Richard L Collins whom she was married to for 57 years until his death on June 6, 2012. She is also preceded in death by her 3 Sisters, Alberta Birum, Betty Sipe, and Marge Overmeyer; her 2 Brothers; Merrill Girton,  and Elvan Girton.

She is survived by her two  daughters; Denise (Jerry) Langenkamp of Marie Stein, OH, Carrie (Jerry) Turner of Ansonia, OH, her 3 sons: Kevin Collins, Winchester, IN, Scott Collins, Union City IN , and Richard (Kathy) Collins Jr. Union City, IN

She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren; Ashley (Nathan) Blevins, Clarksville, Oh, Danielle (Alex) Turney, Columbus, OH , Abby (Zack) Evers, Ansonia, OH, Sarah (Kenny) Edwards, Ansonia, OH, Jessica Collins, Greenville, OH, Taylor (Evan Barger) Collins, Brookville, Oh, Richard Collins , Union City, IN, Steven (Stacy) Collins, Richmond, IN, and Joan Marie (Isaac) Thornburg, Winchester, IN.  9 Great Grandchildren and 2 Step Great Grandchildren.

She is also survived by 2 brothers Kenny Girton, Winchester, IN and Keith (Billy) Girton, Portland, IN. Along with several nieces and nephews. She thought the world of them as she did her whole family.

She was an avid quilter and that was her passion along with crocheting. Her hands were always busy. You very seldom went to visit her that she wasn’t working on a project. She so loved it. But not as much as she loved her grandchildren. She adored them and they her. She was also known for the gift of gab. She never met a stranger and she could strike up a conversation with anyone. You were lucky to get a word in at all. But oh how we enjoyed hearing her stories. She was a jewel. She resided in Union City most of her life but has resided for the past year at Randolph Nursing and Rehabilitation, where her gift of crafts and the gift of gab came in very helpful. She so loved making things for the residents and staff. She made the best of every situation.

Due to the National Health Concerns of Covid-19 Janet’s funeral service will be private. Burial will be at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester with the arrangements entrusted to Walker Funeral Home, Winchester, IN.

In lieu of flowers the family would like for memorial contributions to be made to Reid Health Hospice Services, Richmond, IN.
