Jesse L. Monroe, 93, of Winchester passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018.  He was born on February 1, 1924, in Winchester son of Noah and Bertha (Greene) Monroe. 

Jesse was a veteran in the Army during WWII.  He then worked at Warner Gear for 15 years.  After that time, he went from the Navy Reserves to active duty, working as a recruiter until retiring in 1983.  Jesse then, worked at Jay Randolph Developmental Service in Winchester.  While working at JRDS, he received his Bachelor’s Degree of General Studies and his Bachelor’s Degree of Science from IU East in Richmond.  Jesse was a lifetime member American Legion in Farmland and the Masonic Lodge in Winchester.  He was also a member of the Union Street Wesleyan Church, Winchester Moose, and the Randolph County Historical Society. 

Jesse is survived by a son, Terry A. (Jennifer) Holaday of Georgia; three daughters, Shirley A (Leland “Butch”) Gahret of Union City, IN, Marilyn Galligan of Winchester, and Jodi Bradburn Edwards of Winchester; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; a brother, George (Kathy) Monroe of Winchester; two sisters, Evelyn Hitchens of Dunkirk, IN and Barb (Jimmy) Crist of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews.

Jesse is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Barbara Monroe who passed away January 9, 2018; a daughter, Michele Monroe Ertel; two sisters, Rose Ellen Monroe and Mary Wilker; and a brother, Willie Monroe.

Funeral services for Jesse will be at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester with Pastor Randy Yaryan officiating.  Burial will follow with Military Rites at the Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester. 

Friends and family may call on Thursday, February 1 from 5-7 p.m.  There will be a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.
