Anna (Nura) Haviza, age 94, passed to her heavenly home on December 2, 2018. She was born in the Ukraine, the daughter of Feodor and Anastasia Fortushin. She and her husband Vince met in Germany after the Second World War. Vince was a Captain in the U.S. Army and Nura worked on the army base where he was stationed. They were married August 24, 1946.  Vince passed away in 1994.

They are survived by their five children: Peter (Louann) Haviza, Charlie (Sally) Haviza, Jeff (Kathy) Haviza, Kathy (Rusty) Harris, Tina (Rick) Root; eleven grandchildren: Ryan (Becca) Haviza, Sarah (Ryan) Smalligan, Jason Haviza, Christopher (Min) Haviza, Matthew (Ana) Haviza, Parker Haviza, Mark (Jessica) Root, Joe Root, AJ (Shae) Root, Matthew Fisbeck, Travis Fisbeck; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Nura was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was actively involved in many activities with the church over the years. During that time she made many beloved friendships. She also worked at Jo’s Shoppe for twenty years where she met lots of wonderful people.  Nura enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her. She enjoyed painting, gardening, baking, and made delicious Ukrainian nut bread and cinnamon rolls.

Vince and Nura traveled many places throughout the United States with the Elderhostle program, and enjoyed spending time in Florida in the winter.

Nura had a great sense of humor and inspired everyone who knew her to laugh and make the most of each and every day. She was gentle, loving, kind, and generous, and looked for the good in everyone and every situation. She was a person of great strength, courage and character, and was an inspiration to all who met her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, who will hold her forever in their hearts.

Visitation will be held at Walker’s Funeral Home in Winchester, Indiana from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th. A rosary service will follow visitation hours.
