Trudie M. (Garrett) Simmons, 82, of Winchester, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021. She was born on September 15, 1939, in Byrdstown, TN, to Willie and Bonza Garrett.
Trudie was a 1957 graduate of Union High School. She retired from Haines Hallmark and Gift Shop in Winchester. Trudie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, the Phi Delta Kappa Women’s Club and the Red Hats. She enjoyed meeting with her Tuesday morning Breakfast Group and spending time with her grandchildren.
Trudie is survived by her three children, Bill Simmons and Rick Simmons both of Winchester, and Pam Shockley (Suzanne Isbell) of Beaver Creek, OH; four grandchildren, Kyle Shockley (Kimberly Thompson) of Muncie, Garrett Shockley, Jonathan Shockley, and Shaylin Simmons (David Ward) all of Winchester; four great grandchildren, Connor, Nerrista, Brynlee, and Breeah; sisters, Maxine (Ray) Sterling and Kathy (Don) Lovell both of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews.
Trudie was preceded in death by her husband, James Simmons; her parents; a brother, Willie Otto Garrett; a sister, Shelby Jean Garrett, and a great grandson, Nathaniel Shockley.
A service to celebrate Trudie’s life will be at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester with Pastor Rex Espiritu officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
Friends and family may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23 as well as an hour before services on Wednesday all at the funeral home. Memorials in Trudie’s name may be made to the Randolph County Animal Shelter, 900 N. West St., Winchester, IN 47394, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
