Terry Lee Swindell, 77, of Winchester, Indiana passed away Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 following a brief illness. Born on August 8th, 1946, Terry lived a vibrant life. He was a lover of animals, an avid golfer, a gifted conversationalist, a friend to many, and a strong supporter of education and young athletes.
Terry grew up in Carlos, Indiana and graduated from Lynn High School in 1964. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Black Hills State University, South Dakota, where he was recruited to play basketball on scholarship. He continued his studies at Ball State University receiving his Master’s degree in education. He began his teaching career at Monroe Central Junior/Senior High School in 1969. Retiring from the classroom in 2013, his roles included teaching economics and government, serving as administrative assistant, as well as the athletic director from 1989 to 2001.
During his teaching career, he met and married the love of his life Peggy (Lewis) Swindell, the daughter of the late James E. Lewis and surviving mother Hazel (Jordan) Lewis. They enjoyed reading, vacationing at Lake Cumberland, Kentucky, and supporting nieces and nephews in their athletic endeavors.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Charles William Swindell and V. Marcille (Worley) Swindell, his step father Joseph Jarrett, his sister Rebecca (Swindell) Irish, and his brother-n-law William Irish.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy (Lewis) Swindell, a brother-n-law James (Diana Nuedecker) Lewis, sister-n-law Paula (Lewis) Key (Brad), nephews Gregory (Nancy Melin) Irish, Seth (Miranda) Key, Levi Key, Zeke (Logan) Lewis, nieces Virginia (Irish) Kenyon (Chris), Hannah (Key) Lewis (Kyle), and Erin (Lewis) Frazier (Eric). Great nephews Christopher Jr., Edward Kenyon, Jordan (Fiancé Hannah Graft) Key, Ethan (Melissa Land) Key, Jayce Key, Henry Lewis, and Charles Lewis. Great Nieces JaimeAnn, KyleeRaye, MattieGrace, and OdellaJo Lewis, EllieMae, Charlotte, Kaitlyn and Lizzie Frazier.
A private grave side service will be conducted at the family’s convenience. Terry will be laid to rest at the Buena Vista Cemetery 5454 W 300 S Farmland, Indiana.
