Steven Tracy Champ, 74, of Winchester Indiana went home peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday April 9, 2022 at Reid Hospital in Richmond IN.
He was born May 8, 1947 in Muncie to Ray and Edna Belle (Tinkle) Champ.
He was an ornery husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who had a heart for strays both animal and human. He was a Navy veteran (Vietnam), police officer and maker of walking sticks. He was a law enforcement officer in Randolph County for 40+ years. In his earlier days he was a member of the Blue Knights and loved exploring on his motorcycle. More recently he enjoyed his free time with the Christian Family Pioneers re-enactment group where he sold his hand crafted walking sticks. He was also a member of the Pleasant Hill Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 year, Linda (Moore) Champ, daughters Carrie Ashley and Tracy Hartwell (Billy), and a step-daughter Carrie (Hendrickson) Chipley (Mike). He was called Grandpa by 7 grands: Tanner, KyLee, Parker, Kaitlyn (Chris), Abigail, Rachel, Amelia and 2 great grands: Liam and Hudsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son Corby Hendrickson.
A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Church, 9945 North 800 East, Union City, IN 47390. As a tribute to his craft please bring any walking stick to share/show at his celebration of life.
Friends and family may call from 3-7 p.m., on Thursday at the church. Memorials in Steve’s memory may be made to any Animal Shelter.
