Shawn Laudenbacher Obituary

Shawn Allen Laudenbacher, 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Anderson Community Hospital. Born in Zanesville, Ohio, to David and Linda (Rapp) Laudenbacher, Shawn lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a deep devotion to the people he loved most.

A 1978 graduate of Winchester High School, Shawn married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Martin, in 1982. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family, raising their daughter, Kasey, and later welcoming two grandchildren, Bentlee and Mackenzee, who quickly became the center of his world.

Shawn was a man who expressed love not just in words, but through his actions. He worked hard his entire life to provide for those he loved. He began his career at Life Manufacturing, where he worked his way from janitor and laborer to welding foreman. In 1986, he joined Ohio Valley Gas Corporation, where he devoted 39 years of his life. What began as a job quickly became a calling. Starting as a laborer and welder, he rose through the ranks to become Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent and ultimately, Director of Field Operations.

Shawn was more than someone who showed up to work —he was a mentor, a guide, and a steady presence. He never shied away from getting his hands dirty, leading by example and earning the deep respect of those around him. Though his gruff demeanor was well known, it masked a heart that wanted nothing more than to help others grow and succeed. His colleagues didn’t just see him as a boss—they saw him as a friend, a teacher, a jokester and a constant source of encouragement.

At home, Shawn was the rock of his family—dependable, loving, and always present. He found happiness in the simple joys of life: cheering for the Colts and Steelers, spending time with his grandchildren, and teasing them about them raiding his favorite snack stash, especially when they raided his favorite iced animal crackers. Behind his serious expression was a playful ornery spirit, and those closest to him cherished the laughter, the mischief, and the many

“rotten” jokes that made time with him unforgettable.

Shawn is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Rebecca; his daughter, Kasey; and his adored grandchildren, Bentlee and Mackenzee and his furbabies Gracie, Tucker and Oreo.  He also leaves behind his brother, Mark Laudenbacher (Lisa); nephews Brendan (Dana), Alec (Kyli), Tyson (Amber), and Thad (Kayla); and niece Delanie (Tyler).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Craig Laudenbacher.

In honor of Shawn’s memory, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) 1209 W Riggin Rd, Muncie, IN 47303-6421.

Per his wishes, a private funeral and burial will be held. A public celebration of Shawn’s life will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2025, starting at 5:30 p.m at the Beeson Clubhouse, 900 S Beeson Dr, Winchester, IN 47394.  Please join us, wear your jeans, bring your stories to remember a life well lived, and honor a man who gave so much—to his family, his work, and all who were lucky enough to know him.

Shawn’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and quiet strength. His presence will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
