Roberta "Bertie" Lee (Wise) Horn

Roberta (Bertie) Lee Horn, 93, passed away on June 20, 2021.    Bertie was born on the Fourth of July in 1927 in Crete, Indiana to Carrie (Millett) and Harry C. Wise.  Bertie was a 1945 graduate of Spartanburg High School.  She worked at the Randolph County Courthouse for 25 years, the majority of this time in the Recorder’s Office.  Bertie was married to the late Donald E. Horn for 72 years.  Bertie and Don were the parents of two children, Chuck Horn (wife Karen) and Leesa Jump (husband Jim).  She has six grandchildren, Kristi Blanchard (husband Tom), Kelli Vantine (husband Scott), Kyle Jump (wife Julie), Whitney Gauen (husband Asa), Evan Horn, and Sarah Elizabeth Horn. She also has 9 great-grandchildren, Owen Blanchard, Rigley Jump, Natalie Vantine, Cole Blanchard, Brooke Vantine, Dylan Jump, Alec Jump, Miles Gauen, and Iris Gauen, and “adopted” granddaughter Jill Morrison Friend. Bertie learned to play the piano (by ear) as a child and later enjoyed playing her organ.  Bertie was a member of Main Street Christian Church (currently Countryside Christian Church) for 72 years, volunteering in many capacities.  She enjoyed playing cards and was a former member of Red Hats.   Don and Bertie enjoyed wintering in Florida for 10 years. Bertie enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers.  She enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren especially loved her hamloaf.

Services will be held at Countryside Christian Church, 1212 E. 100 S, Winchester, IN on June 26, 2021 with visitation from 9:30-11:30, followed by funeral service in the sanctuary at 11:30. Graveside interment will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Countryside Christian Church, 1212 E. 100 S., Winchester, IN  47394.
