Robert (Bob) Curry Obituary

Robert (Bob) went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a brief illness, early in the morning on Sunday July 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Reid Hospital. Bob was born February 23, 1938, in Winchester, IN to the late Robert J and Mildred Wolfe Curry.  Bob graduated from McKinley (White River) High School in 1956 where he was the pitcher on the baseball team and a starting forward on the basketball team. In 1957 Bob’s father passed unexpectedly and at 19 years of age Bob took over the family farm.  Bob loved his chosen career path and even though he took it on sooner than he ever dreamed he would, he loved the land and the pride of watching God bless what he sowed in the ground.   Many evenings Bob and Carolyn would drive around the farm watching as the seasons passed by and the rhythm of farm life define their purpose on earth of growing the farm and their family.  Being a history buff and patriot to his country, Bob enlisted in the National Guard where he served for six years.  In January of 1961 Bob married Carolyn Moore Curry and added to their family Rob, Margy and Eddie.  Bob was an active member of the Winchester Congregational Christian Church where they were very active members teaching Sunday School, serving as an Elder, and enjoyed many groups and activities sponsored by the Church. Bob loved his community and served on the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  After Carolyn’s passing in February 1996, Bob married JoAnn Hollingsworth Sauser, July 1998, blending two families and enjoying all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Bob continued to be active in farming and the Winchester community where he was also a board member of the Winchester Pregnancy Care Center and Chairman of the Woodlawn Cemetery Board in Maxville, IN.  Bob always took advantage of ways he could make a difference in someone’s life.  He became involved in a mentor program for several years at Willard Elementary School in Winchester, for at-risk youth and was always proud of the young boys when they excelled in their school work and sports activities.  Little doubt he shared the love of Jesus with them.  More than anything Bob wanted his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to know the Lord and serve Him.  He was very proud of all his children and grandchildren, traveling to as many high school and college activities and graduations as he could.  He made each one of them feel very special and always let them know that he was praying for them. Always encouraging his family, friends, and anyone fortunate to cross his path to seek and follow God; grow in Him to find His will for their lives.  He was a true example of a Prayer Warrior and Godly man.  Being a Hoosier through and through, Bob was an avid sports fan.  He loved watching his kids and grandkids play and coach.  As a boy he was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and later the Cincinnati Reds.  He also enjoyed following Indiana college sports teams (his ringtone was the Notre Dame Fight Song!) and Indiana high school basketball as well as Indiana University Basketball, especially the Bob Knight years.

Surviving Bob; his wife of 26 years JoAnn Curry, sister Nancy Curry Miller, and brother Ed (Kay) Curry.
