Robert J Smiley

Robert J. (Bob) Smiley, 93, passed away on October 21, 2022, at Reid Health in Richmond Indiana.  He was born on February 21, 1929, to Lola (Castle) Smiley and Gerald Smiley. 

Bob was a graduate of Saratoga High School.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in Germany.  Bob did some farming and worked several years at the Campbell Soup Company in Saratoga.  He retired from Randolph Tractor Sales in Winchester.  Bob served as Saratoga Town Marshal for 25 years and was a Randolph County Deputy Sheriff.  He was a charter member of Ward Township Volunteer Fire Department and was a past member of the Saratoga Lions Club.  Bob attended the Saratoga Church of God.  He enjoyed visits from his family and friends, especially his great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by daughter, Saralee (Dean) Garringer of Saratoga; granddaughter, Erika Amador of Anderson; grandson, Justin (Candice) Garringer, of Winchester; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Lucas Amador, Logan and Azlynn Garringer; sister, Martha Bake; brothers, Paul Smiley, Stan (Connie) Smiley, and John (Karon) Smiley; sister-in-law, Ann Addington; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Bruce Swanagan.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Jennetta (Addington) Smiley; brother, David Smiley; brothers-in-law, Danny Green, James Bake, Frank Addington, and Bill Addington; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Smiley and Diane Smiley.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 27, 2022 with and Rev. Steve McCart officiating.  Burial will follow at the Saratoga Cemetery in Saratoga, with military services provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Friends and family may call from 1-3 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.
