Retha Winkle Obituary

Retha Kay (Kindred) Winkle made her journey to her Heavenly home and into the arms of Jesus on July 21, 2026.  She passed peacefully at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana with her daughter and son near her side.  She was 86 years old.

Retha was born on August 26, 1939 in Berea, Kentucky to Leslie and Gladys (Wren) Kindred. She spent her childhood years in Berea, Kentucky before moving to Winchester with her family. Retha was a 1958 graduate of Winchester High School and married the love of her life, David Eugene Winkle on January 31, 1959.

Throughout her life, Retha created a warm and loving home for her husband, her daughter, Cheryl, and her son, Mark.  She leaves a legacy of great love for her family and friends. Retha adored her grandsons and often cared for them in their developing years.  Her love overflowed for her great-grandchildren, and she especially enjoyed giving them goodie bags filled with their favorite treats. She welcomed countless extended family members and friends into her home over the years and enjoyed making memories at family get-togethers. Her family enjoyed her wonderful southern cooking, especially her cheesy potatoes and potato soup.  She took pride in decorating her home for the various seasons and holidays.  Retha’s family holds special memories of her holiday gatherings at her home and Sunday evening meals with loved ones gathered around the table.

Retha is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Chris) Prescott, her son, Mark (Cindy) Winkle, her sister, Lois Cantor of Beavercreek, Ohio, her grandsons, Jordan (Ashton) Winkle, and Gabriel (Jaelyn) Winkle, her great-grandsons, Benjamin, Leo, and Thatcher Winkle, and great-granddaughter, Adelaide Winkle.

Retha is preceded in passing by her husband, David Winkle on July 13, 1996, parents Leslie and Gladys Kindred, brothers Leslie (Jack), Lloyd, Charles (Chuck), Yewell (Wayne) Kindred and sister, Agnes Sebring, and several sisters in law and a brother in law.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the staff of Pine Knoll Rehabilitation Center and Ball Memorial Hospital for their loving care of Retha.

Per her request, there will be no public calling or services.  Walker Funeral Home in Winchester is entrusted with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at walkerswinchester.com.
