Merritt Cox Obituary

Merritt L. Cox, 91, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Pine Knoll Rehabilitation in Winchester after a short stay. He was born June 24,1932 to the late Everett Cox and Elizabeth (Sickels) Cox, in Winchester, Indiana.

Merritt graduated from Winchester High School and soon after he married the love of his life, Wilma Jean (Pegg) Cox. Then, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War in Germany. He farmed until his retirement and was a reserve for the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department in the 1980’s.

Merritt is survived by three daughters, Debbie Vore of Union City, Brenda Donham of Winchester, and Becky (Dean) Cunningham of Winchester; a son, Mike (Tammy) Cox of Lynn; 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Merritt is preceded in death by his wife Wilma Jean (Pegg) Cox; 2 sons-in-law, Jerry Vore and Orville Donham; and a sister, Hattie Ann Browning.

A private family graveside service for Merritt will be at a later date, at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Winchester, with Pastor Steve Conner officiating.
