Marcella Clara Peek, 96 years old, who resided at Brookdale Assisted Living, passed away on July 31, 2022. Marcella was born on September 16, 1925 to William and Irene Huebner in Martin County, Indiana. She and Freeman were married on September 8, 1947 and were married 64 years.
Marcella’s warm smile and easy conversation made her memorable to all who knew her. Her skill as a piemaker was extraordinary, and her occasionally scathing wit was equally notable, especially to her family members.
She devoted the majority of her life to being a loyal, supportive wife to Freeman in all their years of raising Angus cattle, and she was the efficient office manager of their business. Marcella gave endlessly of herself to be sure their four daughters followed in her footsteps as strong, independent women.
Marcella gave true meaning to the term homemaker. She was a skilled seamstress and quilter, leaving behind beautiful handsewn memories. She was an ardent antiquer and loved to hunt a bargain, as long as it met her high standards. She was an eclectic collector but specialized in beautiful china and antique postcards.
She was involved in extension homemakers, was a 4-H leader for several years, and served as president if the Indiana Angus Auxiliary. She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
Marcella is survived by her sister Laverne, her brother Lee, her three daughters Peggy Kidwell, Rhonda Hill (Greg), and Chris Robinson (Kellon), grandchildren Casey (Rob), Judson (Carla), Kylie (Kent), Makaela (Stephan), Zoe, Sean, and Brittany. Survivors also include seven great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Freeman, her parents, four brothers, a daughter Sheila, and her son-in-law.
The family would like to thank Brookdale and the associates there for the wonderful care they gave Marcella. Contributions in her memory can be made to Brookdale for the Brookdale Richmond Resident Programs fund.
The visitation and funeral will be at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Winchester, Indiana, on Thursday, August 4, 2022 with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 and the funeral immediately following. Burial will be at Fountain Park Cemetery.
