Lois Nixon Obituary

Lois Ann Nixon (widow of Franklin Wright Nixon) passed away on April 14, 2025, after a long illness. She was a beloved member of Chapelwood Baptist Church in Winchester, Indiana, the church she was solely responsible for starting in the early 1970s by calling the Winchester radio station asking if there were other interested persons who would like a local Southern Baptist Church. Starting with two or three families, she hosted home meetings attended by visiting pastors, then the meetings were moved to rented quarters in a downtown Winchester building, and finally in the mid-1970s, a chapel was erected, and the growing church proceeded to its last location.

Lois Sykes was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on November 21, 1931, the youngest of six children. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by two daughters; Laura Swindler (husband John Swindler) of Greenville, Ohio, and Myra McDonald (widow of Richard McDonald) of Issaquah, Washington.

Lois married Frank Nixon on June 6, 1948. They spent their 49 years of married life living in Virginia, Illinois, New Mexico and Indiana. After raising her daughters, Lois became an employee of Wick's Pies in Winchester, and stayed there for 20 years. She then enjoyed retirement and traveling with her also retired husband for the next six years. When Lois was widowed on January 9, 1998, she reached out, growing even closer relationships with her many friends, volunteering for extra church and community activities, and going on numerous family trips to various places.

Daughters Laura and Myra love and miss her very much, but know they will see her again and are comforted that Lois is now with her lord and savior, Jesus Christ, enjoying a wonderful reunion with so many others she outlived.

A graveside service for Lois will be held at 1:00 pm Friday April 25, 2025 at Fountain Park Cemetery. Reverend Charles McMahon will be officiating.
