Khalliope Handlon Obituary

Khalliope Jo Handlon was born on November 12, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and passed away on March 16, 2026, in the same city.

Though she entered this world at just 1 pound 3 ounces and 11 inches long, Khalliope had a spirit far bigger than her tiny body. She was feisty from the very beginning, full of personality, and showed a strength that inspired everyone around her. Over time she grew to a beautiful 7 pounds, continuing to amaze her family with her resilience. Her name was as unique and special as she was.

Khalliope faced more challenges in her short life than most do in a lifetime. She bravely battled ichthyosis, epidermolysis bullosa, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), anemia, and various physical deformities. Through countless procedures, treatments, and therapies, she showed unwavering strength and determination every single day. Despite everything she endured, she continued to fight with a fierce spirit that will never be forgotten.

She also had the sweetest little quirks that made her unforgettable. Her eyebrows would turn red when she was mad, she didn’t like her feet being touched, and she found comfort in music and her pacifier. She “ran hot” just like her mom and dad, something that always made them smile.

She is deeply loved and will be forever missed by her parents, Emma Schmidt and Zacharias Handlon; her half-sibling, Evelynn Rose; her grandparents, Tina Horning, Joseph Schmidt, Shelley Schmidt, and Susie Handlon; her aunt, Kaitlynn Cattell; her godparents Emma and Kristopher Steigerwald, along with many other family members who adored her endlessly.

Khalliope’s middle name, Jo, was chosen in honor of her grandfather and great- great-uncle, Joseph Nicholes, carrying forward a legacy of love and family.

Though her time here was far too short, Khalliope Jo Handlon left a lasting mark on every heart she touched. She will forever be our angel.

“Her name was as unique as she was.”

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever, our dear girl.”
