Kevin Alden Abernathy, 45, of Winchester, passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2026, at his home. He leaves behind a life defined by love, devotion, and an unbreakable bond with his son, Colton.
Kevin was born on July 9, 1980, in Winchester, Indiana, alongside his twin brother, Kyle, to Todd and Tammy (Hawley) Abernathy. He attended Winchester Community High School and graduated in 1998. Kevin later earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Kevin worked as a sales representative with Bridgeford Foods. Above all else, he was a proud and devoted father to his nine-year-old son, Colton, the true center of his world. Every plan he made and every dream he carried was rooted in being the best dad he could be. Their days were filled with baseball games, basketball, golf, fishing, riding Colton’s dirt bike, and doing just about whatever Colton wanted to do. They especially enjoyed dining together at their favorite restaurant, Texas Roadhouse. Kevin was happiest when he was with Colton, and his love for his son was constant, fierce, and unmistakable.
Kevin was also a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Known for his heart of gold, he had a way of showing up for the people he loved. His presence, generosity, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Kevin is survived by his son, Colton; his parents, Todd and Tammy (Hawley) Abernathy of Winchester; his twin brother, Kyle (Michelle) Abernathy of Noblesville; and his sister, Nicki (Kristin) Bosworth of Albany. He is also survived by his beloved nephews Camden, Kendall, and Morgan Abernathy, and Braxton (Emma) Bosworth; one special niece Braylee Bosworth and her fiancé, James Daniels; his precious great-niece Blakelynn Bosworth; and a special nephew expected in June. Kevin is further survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly. Holidays and celebrations will never be the same without him.
Kevin was preceded in death by his nephew, Brogan Bosworth; his grandparents Alden and Ann Abernathy and Harold and Nadine Hawley; and his aunt, Tess Hawley.
