John Alan Wysong, 92, from Grover Beach, California, passed away Friday, March 21, 2026. He was born in Winchester, Indiana to his parents, John Harvey Wysong and Martah Lucile Ashcraft Wysong in 1933.
Growing up, John worked on the family farm. He played Basketball at McKinley High School and graduated in 1951.
He enlisted in the US Army, May 4th, 1954 was stationed in France and Germany during his tour. John worked in the commissary and learned his future trade as a meat cutter.
He was discharged May 2nd, 1958 at Fort MacArthur, California and made his way to Santa Maria. He started working at the Safeway Grocery Store located in the Pepper Tree Plaza around 1958. John met his wife Hazel Dorothy (Valente) Alliani and they married May 16th, 1959.
Following the passing of his parents, John kept a vested interest in the family farm. The Wysong family has had a presence in the Winchester area since the 1820’s. While in California, John had his hand in running cattle with his sons since the early 1980’s. What John worked so hard for was to be the best that he could ever be.
He frequently attended the Grover Beach City Council meetings because he wanted to make a difference in the city he lived in for over 67 years.
John is survived by his sons John Robert Wysong and James Michael Wysong (Shelley), 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Wysong, brother Phillip Wysong and his sister Frances Harris.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, IN on Friday, April 10th, 2026, at 11:00am calling an hour before. Greg Pruett will officiate. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
