John D. Seerley

John D. Seerley, 91, of Ocala, Florida went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2020.  He was born April 29, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Don and Helen (Surber) Seerley.

John graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1947.  He played football, basketball, and sang in the high school choir.  He went on to marry his childhood sweetie one year after high school.  John graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture. After school, John moved back to the Indianapolis area to raise hogs and farm with his dad.

In 1964, John moved his family to Lynn, Indiana to continue his farming operation and was a leader in the Randolph County Soil and Water Conservation District. John enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing with friends, camping with his family, and yanking your chain once in a while, especially if you drove a Chevrolet.

John was a strong man of faith and an active member of churches in Lynn, Ocala, and Spartanburg.

John is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Anne (Moore) Seerley, daughter Sue Ann (Kris – deceased) Dines of Indianapolis, daughter Becky (Randy) Welch of Winchester, son Steve (Sharon) Seerley of Modoc, sister Cinda (Bill) Schabel, several nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Seerley, sister-in-law Norma Seerley, a son-in-law and a niece.  A private service to celebrate John’s life will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Ray Ellis officiating.  Burial will be at Spartanburg cemetery.  Walker Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
