Herbert Rex Collins, 88, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Pine Knoll Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 22, 1934, in Randolph County, Indiana to Milford and Elizabeth (Hall) Collins.
Rex worked construction for 50 years, pastored in Jay County for four years, and at the Olive Branch Church. He also worked as a Reserve Deputy at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department for 14 years. He raced cars and riding motorcycles, fishing, and watching old cowboy movies.
Rex is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Don) Shilt; grandson, Chad Laughman; granddaughter, Mindy Collins; four sisters, Lila Collins, Lala (Charlie) Rees, Lois Lawler, and Ruth Ann James; a brother-in-law, David Cook; and several nieces and nephews.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Timothy Collins and Johnathan Collins; and a brother Gerald Collins.
There will be a private family graveside service for Rex at the family’s convenience. Memorials in Rex’s name may be made to the Keystone Hospice, 8455 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
