Harriette Morris Obituary

On 10 July 2022 Harriette Mae Morris passed away peacefully of natural causes after a fantastic 97 years of life. Born to Harriette and Dr. Marvin K. Paup on 21 November 1924 in Hollywood, CA.
Harriette served as a major role model to her 4 brothers and learned a lifetime of responsibility raising them between Hollywood, CA and Kingman, Arizona after losing both of her parents at a young age. Being the doctor’s incredibly talented and beautiful daughter, she instantly caught the eye of a young WW2 army air corps soldier named Robert M. Morris stationed nearby and working extra jobs in town. Thus began a relationship and marriage of fairy tale worthiness. Harriette headed to Indiana with her husband and infant daughter to start a new life on Robert’s family farm in Lynn, Indiana. Soon after settling a son named Robert was born and their family life continued to grow. She worked on and off the farm for years and did everything for her family - from making the meals to the clothes on their backs - all from scratch. Harriette stood out as an above average woman her entire life and arguably contributed to her family and the community most through her art. Almost always ahead of her time, she taught
thousands of art and life lessons in a shop she developed over the years on the farm and eventually took to art shows and competitions all around the United States.
That legacy lives on in all of her students and especially in her granddaughter Vanessa Piche. She continued to be the backbone of her family and the stalwart of her community after the passing of her beloved Robert, and her two children Melanie Vizcarrondo and Robert Morris. She continued her art, gardening, and life on the farm alone largely in part due to support from Mark and Jane Miller who were neighbors turned extended family over the years.  Harriette moved to Friends Fellowship in Richmond to live out the last years of her life. Harriette was an incredibly strong woman and served as an empowering mentor and role model to so many, especially her oldest granddaughter Valerie Pride and her great granddaughter Statia Mae Piche.
Walker Funeral Home in Winchester is entrusted with the arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerswinchester.com.
