Francis Wayne Hogg Obituary

Francis Wayne Hogg (77) of Winchester, Indiana passed away peacefully after his long fought battle with cancer in the early morning of December 22, 2023. He was born on November 18, 1946 to Robert and Ruth (Warren) Hogg of Portland, Indiana.

Wayne graduated in 1964 from Driver High School. Later he continued his education at Indiana Barber School, where he graduated in 1965. To begin his career he barbered in Muncie. He later opened his own shop called Maple Crest Barbershop in 1970 in Winchester. His brother, Warren, then joined him and together the brothers became inseparable, opening HairCrafters in 1977. He co-owned the business where he cut hair for 58 years. In 2022, they decided to sell the business to retire and enjoy more time with their friends and family.

Wayne was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Hogg never knew a stranger!

If you didn’t run into Wayne at the barbershop, in town, or out of town, you would likely find him hunting, running his dog, fishing, exercising at the YMCA, or enjoying time with his family, especially his grandkids. He liked to stay active and kept himself busy. With a smiling face he would greet visitors at the Y, teach children the safety behind hunting at the Conservation Club, and always brought the humor, wit, and sarcasm into any conversation he had.

Hogg was an active community member of his local town. He was an avid volunteer at Randolph County YMCA, a life member of the National Rifle Association, a committee member of both the National Rocky Mountain Elk Federation and National Wild Turkey Federation, a certified muzzleloader instructor for Randolph County 4-H Shooting Sports, a past president of the Farmland Conservation Club, and a past president of the Winchester’s Jaycees. He and his wife were devoted to traveling and watching the Winchester Falcon’s basketball programs too! He enjoyed being a sportsmen, where he traveled across the country.

While Hogg is missed so dearly by many of his beloved friends and family, we know that he is rejoicing in a pain free, cancer free life; greeted by his mother, Ruth (Warren) Hogg and father, Robert “Bob” Hogg, as well as his sister-in-law Barbara Furgason.

Hogg is survived by his wife, Connie (Furgason) Hogg of 58 years; stepmother, Lois Hogg, of Florida; Daughter, Michelle Lake (Matt) of Malta; Son, Robert Hogg (Michelle) of Shelburn; Grandchildren: Savannah and Jacob Hogg of Shelburn, Emma Ruth and Alex Lake of Malta. Brother, Warren Hogg (Mindy) of Winchester; Sister-in-law Sandra Kay Woodbury, brother-in-law Ronald Furgason (Brenda). along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to the Farmland Conservation Club 4-H Shooting Sports Program, at Farmland Conservation Club; P.O. Box 1351, Farmland, IN 47340 in memory of Francis Wayne Hogg.
