Doris Wynn Obituary

Doris Jean (Thompson) Wynn received her Heavenly reward and gave Jesus one of her world-famous hugs on July 1, 2026. She was surrounded by her son and daughters at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana as she made her journey to eternity. She was 89 years old.

Doris was born on May 5, 1937, in Winchester, Indiana, to Rubert and Bertha (Minnick) Thompson. The majority of her life was spent in Winchester, with a short period of her childhood spent in Richmond, Indiana. Doris earned her high school diploma from Winchester High School.

On July 13, 1953, Doris married Grover Cleveland Wynn, and they shared almost 60 years together until his passing on May 30, 2013. Doris worked for a few years at Anchor Hocking in Winchester and briefly as a teacher’s aide at Jay Randolph Preschool. Doris’ greatest life’s work was devoted to being the warmest, most loving mother to Kathy, Jackie, Doug, and Cindy, grandmother to her five grandchildren, and great-grandmother to her thirteen great-grandchildren. Her life’s joy was spending time with her family, and she truly loved the family traditions she created around holiday gatherings. Doris committed her life to the Lord and was baptized at the Assembly of God Church in Winchester.

The legacy Doris leaves exudes the love of Jesus. Those who were fortunate enough to have known Doris would tell you that she was love personified. Her beautiful, full heart touched so many lives and made their lives richer for having known her. As a mother, grandmother, and friend, she was there and fully present for both life’s darkest moments and brightest celebrations. In her role as the world’s greatest mother and grandmother, Doris provided her children and grandchildren with the best advice, endless support, and, most of all, the warmest love. She greeted everyone with her beautiful smile and her warm, radiating, unforgettable hugs that touched their souls. She shined from the inside out with such radiance that anyone who met her immediately knew that she loved and appreciated them. Doris always made it clear that she LOVED YOU MORE.

Doris is survived by her children, Kathy (Zeke) Horner, Doug (Liz) Wynn, and Cindy (Mark) Winkle, all of Winchester; grandchildren, Bridget (Todd) Loyd, Kylee (Jeff) Hopkins, Kaycee (Chris) Brannan, Jordan (Ashton) Winkle, and Gabe (Jaelyn) Winkle; and great-grandchildren, Lauren Loyd, Drew Loyd, Mikaylee Hoffman, Mylee Hoffman, Jaxton Hopkins, Karci Hopkins, Micah Hopkins, Carter Brannan, Kaiser Brannan, Benjamin Winkle, Leo Winkle, Thatcher Winkle, and Adelaide Winkle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover; her daughter, Jackie Stewart; her parents, Rubert and Bertha Thompson; her brother, John (Janice) Thompson; and her sister, Mary Beth (Tom) Foudray.
