Doris J. (Dickerson) Vincent

Doris Jean Vincent, 95, passed away on December 10, 2021.  She was born December 23, 1925, in Crawfordsville, IN to George and Iva Maude (Wallace) Dickerson.  Doris spent her early years in Crawfordsville, where she graduated from high school, met and later married Robert Barr Vincent on November 23, 1947. 

Doris attended Indiana Business College and worked for General Telephone before her marriage.  She and Bob raised three children in North Salem, IN, where they lived for 23 years.  After her children were in school, she worked at American States Insurance, at the Indianapolis Jaycees for 19 years as their Office Manager, and worked at Bank One. 

She was always a very involved member in church wherever she lived, but especially at North Salem Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and also at Countryside Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Winchester, IN.  Over the years, she sang in the choir, played the organ, participated in Women’s fellowship Circles, filled in as church secretary and helped out as needed.

Even in her eighties, Doris volunteered at the St. Vincent Randolph Hospital in Winchester.  She was very proud of the 10 gallons of blood she donated over the years.

Doris loved to travel and loved her family.

Doris is survived by her children Janet (John) Mitchell of Bloomington, IN, Lois (Larry) Headd of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Marvin (Elaine) Vincent of Martinsville, IN, grandchildren Coleen Mitchell, Mike (Kristen) Mitchell, Lisa (Nathan) Mills, Scott (Nicole) Headd, Eric (Casey) Vincent, Leslie (Scott) Kulig, and Evan (Jenny) Vincent as well as 12 (soon to be 13) great grandchildren.

Preceding Doris in death were her husband, her parents and an infant sister, Gladys.

Services for Doris will be held at Countryside Christian Church, (formerly Main St. Christian Church), 1212 E 100 S, Winchester, IN, on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Doris’ name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or College of the Ozarks.
