Donald Melvin Fields, 73, of Winchester, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 1, 1949, in Winchester to William and Ireva (Couch) Fields.
Don was a 1968 graduate of Winchester High School, and took mechanical classes at Ivy Tech. He proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving in Vietnam, where he was awarded 2 Purple Hearts. Don worked maintenance at Ross Mould previously called OMCO for 43 years. He was a member of the East Street Congregational Christian Church. He enjoyed coin collecting, fishing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Carolyn Fields; four daughters, Deeon Vance (Joan Ashley), Donnetta Hernly (Tim), Lisa Laudenbacher (Mark), and Diane Hill (Danny); several grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; siblings, Ron Fields (Kathie), David Fields (Cynthia) and Jennifer Botkin (Doug); and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandson, Vince Wiley.
A service to celebrate Don’s life will be at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at the East Street Congregational Christian Church, 128 N. East St., Winchester, IN 47394, with Pastor Rob Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Don’s name can be made to the DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
