Dixie Lee Osting, 75 - transitioned back to her Heavenly Father peacefully at her residence on July 13, 2022. She was surrounded by her husband, Dallas, sons J.W. and Shane and very close former students Carrie (Stephen) Baldwin and Nicki (Abernathy) Bosworth. Her daughter, Wendi husband Marty Cross and children Lillian and Landan along with son Kyle Osting and Husband Ryan Barnt called from Virginia Beach National Dance Competition.
Dixie was born November 16, 1946 to the late Jack (Gramps) Schoenke and Clara Jean (Granny) Burns in Logansport, IN. She attended Greensburg Community High School and became an unbelievable dance teacher. She started studios in Greensburg, Westport, Columbus, Logansport, Brookston, Delphi, and Winchester. She had one key motto "Always have a positive attitude." It was said, if you do not give your child dance lessons at Dixie's, you are committing child abuse.
Dixie married the love of her life, Dallas Osting on August 4th, 1968. They enjoyed 53 years of marital bliss. Dixie loved children. She and Dallas had four children. J.W. Osting, 2 daughters; Brittany husband Zane Woodbury and children Sawyer and Addie and Jaylei Osting. Wendi Cross husband Marty Cross with children Lillian and Landan; Shane Osting and Kyle Osting husband Ryan Barnt.
Dixie started the Dixie's Dance Studio in the fall of 1986 as a little hobby. She never dreamed what that hobby would end up exploding into for Winchester for 32 years. She and her parents made the dance studio a second family for many students and parents. She has had a long lasting effect on thousands of students (both male and female) and their families. She gave them lifetime skills to be able to prepare and present themselves positively in all situations to become a success in anything they attempt. They learned the true values of being a family!
Dixie was involved in her community to the "nth" degree. She joined the "Classy Old Broads" Red Hats of Winchester. She loved those ladies and was helping to organize outings to bring them closer and find new places to eat! She was influenced by pastors Dave Anderson, pastor Danny Hines, and pastor Jonathon Edwards. She became close friends with all three.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents (Gramps and Granny), one brother Ken, and Dallas parents (Marjorie and Eugene Osting) along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends and classmates. A celebration of Dixie's life is entrusted to Walker Funeral Home.
A celebration of Dixie’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the Winchester Towne Square Community Centre, with Pastor Danny Hines officiating. Burial will follow at the Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
