Corvin Lee Coats

Corvin Lee Coats, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at Coventry Meadows in Ft. Wayne, IN.  He was born on August 28, 1930, in Powers Station, Jay County, Indiana, to Roger and Evelyn (Furrow) Coats.

Corvin graduated in 1948 from Lincoln High School.  In 1954, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Eustis in Newport News, Virginia where he managed officers' records.  Corvin married Patty Hutchison on May 22, 1955 and after completing his military service in 1956, he returned to Winchester where he dedicated his life to a career in agriculture.  In his retirement years, Corvin moved to Fort Wayne, IN where he served as a volunteer at the VA Hospital.  He was honored for his 10 years and 3750 hours of service to his fellow veterans.  Corvin lived a life rooted in faith, guided by love for family, and dedication to his work in farming. His unwavering devotion to these values shaped the legacy he leaves behind.

Corvin’s legacy lives on through his wife, Patty; his six children: Kathy (Kurt) Jaderholm of Winfield, IL, Ted (Kathy) Coats of Zionsville, IN, Gary (Kim) Coats of Winchester, IN, Donna (Mike) Duggan of Roanoke, IN, Amy (Mike) Bertsche of New Haven, IN, and Shannon (Steve) Garrett of Fort Wayne, IN; 14 grandchildren (spouses) and 13 great-grandchildren; and sister Wanda Woodward of North Manchester, IN. 

Corvin was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Evelyn Coats, his brother, Rex Coats, and his granddaughter, Emily Marie Coats.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 24th, from 3:00-4:00 PM, with reception following, at Willow’s Edge, 627 W. 100 S, Winchester, IN.  A private family burial will precede the service.
