Carra Faye Chalfant Obituary

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Carra Faye (McDavid) Chalfant, was welcomed into her eternal home by her Lord and Savior, as well as her many friends and family members eagerly awaiting her arrival.

Born on March 8, 1946, Faye was the 10th of 11 children born to Lovie and Cleo McDavid in Ashland, KY. Later moving to Randolph County, Faye was a beloved member of the Winchester High School class of 1964. Faye formed dear and long-lasting friendships that have endured the test of time and recently they celebrated their 60th class reunion.

In 1971 Faye became a mother to her daughter Kelly followed by her only son Andy in 1974 and daughter Amber in 1987.  Faye learned by example from her parents how to nurture and raise her children in a loving home.

While raising her children, Faye worked at various jobs. Faye had sewing abilities that were unparalleled to other. She created custom designed pieces to altering the most intricate of gowns for so many in the area. Her creative flare was something that was truly marvelous.

But over the years her true calling would be that she was a caregiver. Faye cared for ill family members all her life. But for the last 25 years Faye’s high magnitude for care didn’t stop with her family. She shared her abilities with over 20 families in and around Randolph County. Priding herself with dignified care, she soon became highly sought after.

Dedicated, selfless, loving, loyal, giving and talented are just a few words that could be used to describe this amazing woman. But the words she cherished most were daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, mom, grandma, great grandma and friend.

Those who will miss her most are daughter Kelly (Mike) Ponder, Farmland, son, Anthony (Andy) Chalfant, Winchester and daughter, Amber Shoemaker, Richmond. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she never missed an opportunity to tell them she loved them. Already missing the “I love you” are grandchildren Josh (Maria) Ponder, Farmland, Mallory Chalfant, Muncie and Elijah (Raven) Chalfant, Winchester along with great-grandchildren Jackson and Jason Ponder.  Siblings who will miss their sister’s love and compassion are Lovie Farrington, Betty Jenkins, Paul McDavid and Garrett McDavid. Also Faye leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews to cherish the memories they shared.

Faye’s parents, Lovie and Cleo McDavid, brothers Jack, Jim, Bill, Larry and Harry and sister Monnie Tarter all welcomed Faye back into the family fold with open arms in heaven.

Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound that will be gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who have loved her deeply in her amazing 78 years of life. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to keep giving back to others in Faye’s name.  A fund has been set up at the Randolph County Community Foundation for a student who plans to go into the field of caregiving, nursing, etc. This scholarship will ensure that those who have the same passion for providing quality care continues through her spirit.
