Carolyn Fleming Obituary

Carolyn Sue Fleming, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024, after an extended illness. She was born in Winchester, IN, on December 11, 1939, to the late Fred and Mary Miller.

She graduated from Winchester Community High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, Robert Brooks (Bob) Fleming, on June 14, 1958, and they were blessed to spend 61 years together.

In 1970, Sue pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse by attending the Reid Memorial Nursing program where she attained her LPN.  She spent her entire career working for the Randolph County Hospital/St. Vincent Hospital taking care of so many local residents, retiring in 2007.

She and Bob took such pride in their home and enjoyed working outside in the yard/garden. She had a passion for “good food” and loved spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Brooks (Bob) Fleming; her son, Robert Brooks (Brook) Fleming; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Penticuff Fleming; her son-in-law, Joe Mathias; her siblings, Charles Miller (Violet), Margaret Cejnar, Patty Burnett (Ben), Marilyn Fraze (Paul); niece, Mary Lou Walters, nephews, Fred Miller, Jeff Miller and step-grandson, Caleb Mixell.

She is survived by her son, Gregory Lee Fleming (Joann Bales) of Winchester, IN; daughter, Susan Jane Durst (Jeff) of Madison, IN; grandchildren, Amber (Jamie) Mixell of Yorktown, IN; Ashley (Ronnie) Graham of Smithfield, VA; Jarrod (Ken Lee) Fleming of Nashville, TN; Jessica (Ryan) Handy of Fairmount, IN;  Zach (Emily) Durst, Bow, New Hampshire; Laura Durst, Louisville, KY; great-grandchildren;  Tyler, Brookelyn, Wyatt, River, Waylon, Paisley, Wesson and Benjamin.

A celebration on Sue’s life will be on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the home of Greg Fleming, 406 Carl St., Winchester, IN from 1 – 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to the Shalom Food Panty, 124 E. Washington St., Winchester, IN 47394.
