Carole Myers Obituary

Carole S. Myers died on October 28, 2021 at the age of 77 after facing cancer with strength and grace. She spent her last weeks at home surrounded by loved ones, who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Carole was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend.

She was born to the late Florine (Williams) and Don Paine on September 24, 1944 in Vandalia, Ill. She spent her childhood in Greenville, Ill. and her high school years living on the campus of Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Ill. where her parents worked. She said many times that growing up on the campus was a very happy life. After graduating from Lincoln Community High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Lincoln Christian College where she met and married the love of her life, Ed Myers. Together, they had three children: Kim, Kelley and Kara. They spent their early years leading several churches in Illinois and Pennsylvania before returning to Ed’s hometown of Spartanburg, Ind.

Carole worked 32 years in the Randolph Southern School System – devoted to students in special education classes for many years, then in the school offices toward the end of her tenure. Upon her retirement in 2013, she and Ed moved to Ingalls, Ind. to be closer to their children.

She spent her life active in church – teaching Sunday school classes, leading children’s church, playing the piano and most recently serving in the kitchen for Pendleton Christian Church’s Community Night meals and countless funeral dinners. She treasured time with dear friends from her Bible study and the A.P.P.L.E. team at Pendleton Christian Church. She also spent the last several years traveling with her family – focused on enjoying every moment together.

Carole is survived by her daughters, Kim (Rod) Longnecker, Kelley (Joe) Carpenter and Kara (Mike) Yerke; six grandchildren, Jessica (Javier) Castro, Aaron (Jessica) Longnecker, Justin Longnecker, Taylor, Kari, and Sara Carpenter; and four great grandchildren, Izaiah and Natalia Castro, Zayden and Ronnie Longnecker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a granddaughter, Jordan Carpenter.

A graveside service will be held for family and friends at a later date at Hopewell Cemetery in Farmland, Ind. Donations in her memory may be made to Pendleton Christian Church for Community Night meals (pendcc.org | (765) 778-2156) or to an organization within your community that you hold dear.
