Anita Sue Brumfield, 77, of Winchester, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital. She was born on July 15, 1945, at home in rural Lynn, to Harold and Cordelia (Brouse) Retter.
Sue was a 1963 graduate of Lynn High School. She married Jerry Brumfield on June 28, 1963. Her life's work was raising five children and assisting her husband with ministry and farming. Sue loved to sing and harmonize. Early on, she sang with her sisters in the Retter Sisters' Quartet. She later sang with her husband who is a guitarist and led choirs for children and young people. She also enjoyed singing with the Christianaires Quartet for period of time. She helped found the Maxville Christian Church and Freedom Christian Academy. She loved sewing, cooking and children's ministry.
Sue is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jerry Brumfield; 5 children, Tammy (Joe) Wise, Angie Kitashoji, Brent (Karrie) Brumfield, Brad Brumfield, and Bruce (Keri) Brumfield; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; siblings, Rita Densmore, Carolyn (Jim) Rees, Nelson Retter, Jane (Carroll) Beck, Linda (Ed) Haynes, and Joyce Relly; 2 sisters-in-law, Dixie Edwards and Judy (George) Strong; and many nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Ward, Edwin, Duane, and Phil Retter.
A service to celebrate Sue’s life will be at 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Maxville Christian Church (625 W just north of SR 32) with Pastors Jerry Brumfield and Brent Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery next to the church.
Friends and family may call from 10-11:30 a.m., on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Maxville Christian Church or Freedom Christian Academy, 573 N 625 W, Winchester, IN 47394.
