Berniece I. (Miars) Mitchell, 83, of Winchester, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the Randolph Nursing home in Winchester.  She was born June 14, 1935, in Hartford City, Indiana to Ernest W. and Mary J. (Garrett) Miars. 

Berniece was a graduate of Dunkirk High School.  She was a homemaker.  Berniece was a leader for the Randolph County 4-H dog obedience program for over 10 years.  She enjoyed traveling especially to Arizona.  She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. 

Berniece is survived by her daughter, Mary Janek of Winchester; a son, David McCammon of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Dan Cochran, Kevin Cochran, and Mikayla McCammon; a brother, Jay Miars; a niece, Linda O’Bryant; and a nephew John Jones.

Berniece was preceded in death by her parents; her husband David Mitchell; two brothers, Edward Miars and Eugene Miars; and a sister, Betty Jones.

Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Walker Funeral Home.  There will be no service.

My heart goes out to this family. She was one great lady. Her love of dogs showed through when working with the 4-H. She will truly be missed.

What a special friend she was to me. Words can’t express how much I will miss her. Her family became mine and my children grew up with her in their lives. Thought and prayers to her family
