Charles E. (Charlie) Miller, 95, of Winchester passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Parker Health Care Center.  He was born May 11, 1923 in Fulton County, IN, the fifth of eight children to Otto S. and Edna P. (Benn) Miller.  Charlie was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran having honorably served with the 2nd Battalion 314th Infantry.

On September 28, 1946, after a six week courtship, he married Mary Jane Pence, to whom he was happily wed for 66 years.  Together they raised five children and were successful grain and dairy farmers in Randolph County.  After retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter who never quite charged what he was worth for his expert craftsmanship.

Charlie attended Parker United Methodist Church.  He loved fishing, card games, babies, small animals, teasing, being teased, and family reunions.

He is survived by his children, Pam (Reed) Edwards of Farmland, Debbie Pierson of Tempe, AZ, Judy (Rick) Thornburg, Dennis (Melanie) Miller, and David (Sharon) Miller, all of Winchester; 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Bill Miller, one sister, Helen Stinnett; and close friend, Chris Bunner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; infant son, Charles E. Miller, Jr.; two brothers, Paul Miller and Cleo Miller; and three sisters, Dorothy Kidwell, Rosetta Lurch, and Esther Dingman.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, with Pastor Stephen Conner officiating.  Burial with military honors will be at Woodland Cemetery east of Farmland.

Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m., on Tuesday, July 31 as well as one hour prior to services on Wednesday.  Memorials in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Journey Home Veterans Center, 325 S. Oak St., Winchester, IN 47394.

Chris, I just now heard about Charlie's death. I am so sorry for you and his family. I hadn't heard he was in the nursing home either. I didn't know him, but he sounded like a very interesting and a nice man.
