Paris Owens, Jr., age 80, of Winchester, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2017, with his family by his side.

He was born on August 19, 1936 in Berea, Kentucky to Paris and Georgia L. (Gatliff) Owens.  Paris was a 1955 graduate of McKinley High School and was a lifelong farmer, doing what he loved to do.  He was a faith based man, having served his church, Main St. Christian Church, for many years.  His love of God and his family was very evident.  At church, he was made an Elder of Emeritus.

Paris is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sue K. (Hiatt) Owens of Winchester; his son, Kurt (Cheryl) Owens of Winchester; 5 grandchildren, Andy Owens, Denny Owens, Brook Owens, Kelly Owens and Lee Owens; a great granddaughter, Victoria Owens; a brother, Walter (Candace) Owens of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kent Owens.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.  There will be no calling hours.

Paris was a great man the sort of whom I feel his expectations helped make me a better writer who was more responsible and responsive to the community. I'm proud to have known him and to have been his friend in some small way. When I ask myself what is the right way to address an issue that is important to the farming community, my second question is often - what would Paris say. That won't change.
I will pray for his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

I am so sad to learn of Paris' death. He was a kind person, always ready with a helping hand and heart. I loved his sense of humor and his sense of fairness. Our thoughts are with Sue, Kurt, Cheryl, and all the family.

Our thoughts and prayer are with Sue and her family. Paris and Sue were out landlords for quite a few years, and we could have not ask for better landlords. Paris will be missed by many.
