James Robert Alexander, 87, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at the Randolph County Nursing Home in Winchester, Indiana.

He was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Winchester, Indiana, the son of Charles and Alda Alexander (deceased; 1985 and 1991 respectively). Jim was a McKinley High School graduate and a veteran of the US Navy and the Korean War, serving on the USS Palau. He also served as a supervisor at OMCO’s Cast Metal Foundry for 42 years and later at the Walker Funeral Home after his OMCO retirement. He was a Little League coach, Boy Scout leader, and served at the Winchester United Methodist Church.  He was also a member at the Spartanburg Christian Church. Jim traveled extensively including many Christian missions, rock hunting, and fishing trips. He was a giving and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Helen Alexander of Winchester, Indiana; a son, Mike (wife, Laurie) Schopmeyer of Evansville, Indiana; a daughter, Connie Dieken (former husband, Doug) of Cleveland, Ohio; another son, James C. Alexander; and step-daughter Pam (husband, Larry) Tucker of Modoc, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Spencer (wife, Christine) and Alexandra Dieken, Sarah (husband, Tom), Jim, Joan, and Kait Schopmeyer, Jason (wife, Kristin) Reitenour, Chad (wife, Melissa) Lovell, and Erica (husband, Kevin) Durant; one great-grandson, Sean Dieken; nieces and nephews, Debbie Leach, Peggy, Peter, Jean, Matt, Diane, and Veronica Phillips, along with Margie Manning; and sister-in-law Marcia Phillips. Jim was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters, Bill, Charles, Donald, Catherine Woods, Louisa Jones, Edith Gardner, and Mary Ann Rust, and his previous wife, Joan Phillips Alexander (1993).

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, Indiana with Rev. Brian Richmond officiating. Friends may call before the funeral services from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Community Foundation of Randolph County, 213 S. Main Street, Winchester, IN 47394 or Spartanburg Christian Church, 6714 E. 700 South, Lynn, IN 47355.
