Michael Roland “Doc” Thorn of Winchester, IN passed away unexpectedly on Oct 21st, 2017. Michael was born December 31st of 1947 at Randolph County Hospital, to Helen (Irvine) Thorn and Harold “Bud” Thorn. He is a graduate of Lynn High School, Lynn Indiana class of 1965.

He promptly joined the United States Navy and served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman in the 3rd Marines division, Quang Tri, Vietnam. After being honorably discharged from military service he worked in many different fields Including:  Surgical Technician, Industrial Manufacturing, Union Plumber, Insurance sales, General Contracting/Master Plumber, Amateur wine maker, Rustic cabin construction, Pragmatic existentialist Quaker conservative patriot capitalist, Amateur student of law, and Veterans advocate.

Michael was a very deep man who had many passions in life; if you ever spoke to him the topic of conversation would somehow revolve around his love of this country and his family. Those were the two things he loved the most in this world. These things were closely followed by spending time in the woods either with Steven Alexander Thorn or with those who meant the most to him.  He also had a great passion for good wine and close friends. He was always happy to share a bottle of his wine with great people. Michael also enjoyed keeping up the family property, maintaining its appearance for all and continuously improving its overall functionality along with the occasional early morning fishing adventure.

Michael is survived by his mother, Helen (Irvine) Thorn, His wife Diana (Fields) Thorn, His Brother Jeff Thorn, His sisters Dodie (Thorn) Preston and Claudia (Thorn) Bex, Vicki (Mann) Beamer, His Sons and Daughters in Law Charles Michael Thorn, Christina (Wilson) Thorn, William Gabriel Thorn, Rosalind (Neu) Thorn and Chance Taylor Thorn, His Grandchildren Taylor Nicholas Thorn, Taryn Nicole Thorn, Hadley Elizabeth Thorn, Eelynn Rosalind Thorn.

Michael was preceded in death by his partner in crime Steven “Stevie” Alexander Thorn, His father Harold “Bud” Thorn, His Brother Nathan Lee Thorn.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, with Thomas Spainhour officiating.  Burial with Military Services will follow at the Fountain Park Cemetery, in Winchester.

Friends and family may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, October 26, at the funeral home.

This loss deeply saddens me. I spent many an evening laughing and 'cutting up' with him years ago. I'll miss seeing him and his wife pass me and my dog, all of us on the golf cart, enjoying a leisurely ride on a nice day. I'll miss seeing him pop in to visit all of us at work. My heart cries with the family over this loss. May God comfort you during this difficult time. God Bless.
